Story

Hongo Takeshi, an all-star autoracer and scientific genius with an IQ of 600 is abducted by a secret organization, known as Shocker, and turned into a cyborg. Shocker wanted to use Hongo's incredible scientific knowledge and driving abilities in their plan to rule the world, but right before Shocker could install the brain washing programing, Hongo was able to escape. Knowing of Shockers plans, Hongo swore to fight for the freedom and peace of all mankind. For a while Hongo continued to fight the minions of Shockersent to destroy him. However, when he learned that Shocker had already progressed with it's plans in several countries, Hongo left for Europe. Ichimonji, a cyborg like Hongo, continued to protect Japan in Hongo's place. When Dr. Death leader of the European Shocker branch came to Japan to reform Shocker into GelShocker, he was followed by a newly powered up Hongo. Often Hongo got into a pinch when faced with GelShocker's powerful Kaijin, but with indomitable fighting spirit and with the combination of Ichimonji, Hongo ws able to defeat GelShocker.

Because he was meant to be Shocker’s greatest altered human, Kamen Rider 1 has the ability to hear at long distances up to 4 kilometers. The Typhoon Belt (タイフーン ,Taifun^?) is Hongo's transformation belt. Its original use was as one of Shocker's tools for human alteration. His first belt has a white strap until he receives an upgrade (along with a new costume) with a red strap similar to Kamen Rider 2's belt.

The Cyclone is a machine given to Kamen Rider by Professor Midorikawa. Cyclone takes the form of an off-road bike and can be ridden by people other than Hongo. When Hongo transforms into Kamen Rider the switch for the bike is also activated and the bike becomes an on-road bike. In episode 40 when Rider 1 goes to save Rider 2 the Cyclone has a similar form to Rider 2’s Cyclone. It’s assumed that the Cyclone was upgraded while he was overseas. In Kamen Rider The First, Cyclone was designed and created by his mentor Tobei Tachibana. He rides the Cyclone even in human form or rider form.
